What's New

The Future Of HTML Help

Will there be new versions? Will there be bug fixes?

HTML Help is in maintenance mode, which means no new features are expected for either the runtime or the compiler. Only critical updates will occur from here on. All mainstream development on HH has stopped.
There are many non-critical bugs in HTML Help (well duh!). If you do find a critical bug, you should contact the MicrosoftHelpMVPs via the SysOp page for assistance. They will verify the software defect and contact the Help development team. At the very least, we can get the bug into the MS Software defect database.

HTMLHelp - Tool to recover Original Topic IDs in converted Winhelp Project

I am faced with converting 4 WinHelp projects with several hundred topics to HTML help format. The automatic conversion output of the MS HTML Help Workshop is a good starting point, but I found that I have to edit many of the HTML files afterwards because the conversion did not connect all of the context ID links (I have many!) or extract all the images. The automatic renaming of the files by Workshop is a real pain.

I wrote a little tool to modify the new HTML project to use the original Topic IDs from the Winhelp project (it renames all of the .htm files and their links), rewrite the alias file, and reconnect to the original application context ID's. I looked around for other tools - FAR is a great tool, but does not do this.

HtmlHelp - HH_KEYWORD_LOOKUP Command issue

Hi
We want to display help files(.chm format) using HTMLHelp API in a particular format.
HH_KEYWORD_LOOKUP command is used with HtmlHelp API to search for one or more Keywords
in a compiled HTML Help (.chm) File and display it in a "Topics Found" window.
We have some issues with using the HH_KEYWORD_LOOKUP command.

1)When we invoke "Topics Found" window using HH_KEYWORD_LOOKUP command, the parent window from which the "Topics Found" window was invoked doesn't get re-drawn. When you drag the "Topics Found" Window over Parent Window, all the display of the parent window gets erased and is not redrawn. But when we close the invoked "Topics Found" window, the parent window gets re-drawn.

2)When we invoke "Topics Found" window, and move the cursor out-side of the "Topics Found" window ,we get a wait cursor.

NB: We need to display HTMLHelp Window after selecting from "Topics Found" Window.
Otherwise please provide us any alternative solution.
